Menstrual hygiene<\/h2>\n

Most girls in Magola Sub County miss at least three days of school every month because they cannot afford sanitary pads. Absenteeism linked to menstruation has risen from 7% to 28% since 2012. MCS distributes sanitary pads, builds changing rooms in schools, and trains teachers and pupils to make their own reusable pads from locally sourced materials.<\/p>\n

This year: 500 girls reached across 3 schools. 2 changing rooms built. Reusable pad making training delivered.<\/p>\n

We are actively seeking funding to reach more girls, build more changing rooms, and scale up training. Support this programme \u2192<\/a><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Women’s empowerment<\/h2>\n

Women in Tororo district make up 51.5% of the population but are largely excluded from owning land or generating independent income. MCS supports women to own their own gardens, grow their own crops, and take on agricultural work traditionally reserved for men \u2014 providing seeds, guidance, and small start-up loans.<\/p>\n

This year: 10 women economically empowered. Women now own farms, grow crops, raise livestock and generate their own income.<\/p>\n

\n

Education<\/h2>\n

MCS supports three primary schools in Magola Sub County \u2014 Magola, Nambogo, and Pajangango. We provide scholastic materials to pupils, train teachers in leadership and accountability, and work with parents and communities to improve school enrolment and retention \u2014 particularly for girls.<\/p>\n

This year: Pupils received uniforms, books and pens. Head teachers mentored in school leadership. Community dialogues held with parents and pupils.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

School feeding<\/h2>\n

80% of pupils at Magola Primary School go the entire school day without food. Teachers report that afternoon lessons are half empty because hungry children cannot concentrate. MCS established a two-acre school garden, training pupils, teachers, parents and the school management committee in organic farming to create a sustainable source of food for the school.<\/p>\n

This year: 2 acres of school garden established. 500kg of maize harvested. Organic farming training delivered to the whole school community.<\/p>\n

This programme needs continued financial support to grow. Support school feeding \u2192<\/a><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Health services<\/h2>\n

MCS works with Magola HCII and Poyameri HCIII health facilities to deliver quality health services to communities in Magola Sub County. Our focus is on maternal and newborn child health, sexual and reproductive health, and strengthening community healthcare systems so that the most vulnerable have access to the care they need.<\/p>\n

This year: Continued partnership with two health facilities. Mothers supported with antenatal and postnatal care services.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Elderly care<\/h2>\n

Older people in rural Uganda face widespread neglect, poverty, and isolation. MCS volunteers visit elderly women in Magola Sub County to fumigate homes, wash clothes, clean compounds, and provide basic supplies. Because no one should grow old invisible.<\/p>\n

This year: 5 elderly women supported. Homes cleaned and fumigated. Christmas gifts delivered. Aketch Asinasi received a new mattress.<\/p>\n

\n

Environmental conservation<\/h2>\n

Wetland degradation in Magola Sub County is causing floods, droughts, and loss of biodiversity \u2014 directly threatening the farming communities that depend on predictable seasons. MCS is working with local communities, organisations, and district authorities to restore wetlands and build long term environmental awareness through training, dialogue, and community-based resource management.<\/p>\n

Going forward: Public awareness campaigns planned. Village-based wetland resource persons to be trained. Community dialogues underway.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
